I currently have an item listed as the starting bidding price of 2.99 of course I want someone to bid higher, I only have one bid and the auction closes in 2 hours. Is there anyway to get them to bid higher? Can I place a bid?

Sorry not Ebay savy..

  1. Live and learn.  Maybe try to get it on the shipping cost if you have not specifically said how much it would cost.  What the others said is correct.

  2. If you try and place a bid you will lose your Ebay account. There is no way to make a buyer increase their bid, that's the way the auction process works. You win some and lose some.

My wife is a Power Seller and we have read many books about the Ebay process. Most Power Sellers will tell you to start your auctions at .99 cents to start a bidding war. It has worked more times than not for us.

  3. You can't place a bid on your own auction. You also can't ask a friend to bid on your item in the hopes of the other bidder increasing their bid -- that's collusion or shill bidding -- and against eBay guidelines.

Unfortunately, you can't make the person bid higher.

What you should have done is to put a higher start price on your item if you don't want them to sell for $2.99. That way, even if there's only 1 bid on the item, you will find it ok.

The problem of setting a low price, and hope that the price increases through active bidding is that it is all a risk and a gamble -- sometimes there wil be lots of bidders and sometimes none or sometimes only 1.

  4. no, sorry!! there is no way to make someone bid higher!! i love eBay, i use it all the time so i have lots of experience. the best thing to do is to NEVER list an item for less than the absolute minimum you'd like to sell it for. simple enough, right? don't be one of those people who creates a ghost account and bids on their own auctions...that's dumb...especially if no one else bids because then you're stuck with the fees and in the end you pay for things you didn't even sell!! just do it the right way and you'll be all good =)
