My work in Oregon, is acting like a bunch of 2-year olds with a pen, and I need to know how to make a complaint to the labor board.

  1. Depending on the type of complaint, I would contact OSHA. There are probably posters form OSHA at your workplace with contact information. They usually deal with safety issues as well as employee wellbeing such as making sure you get your breaks and stuff. www.osha.gov

  2. Depends on the type of complaint. The Labor Board enforces the National Labor Relation Act which (put simply) allows employees the right to join unions or refrain from joining unions for the purpose of collective bargaining. If your boss is discriminating against you because of union activity (or "protected concerted activity" which basically means where you go with or on behalf of at least one other employee to discuss terms and conditions of employment--regardless of whether a union is present at your place of work), then you would go to the Labor Board. If you are being discriminated against because of other, federally protected classes: race, age, disability, religion, national origin, or s*x, contact the EEOC. If, however, you are in an at-will state (you can be terminated for any or no reason), unless your boss is discriminating against you for those reasons, he's pretty much just a jerk and I'd look for new work (but don't do anything to agitate him in the mean time!) For Labor Board contacts and info, go to www.nlrb.gov and for EEOC info go to www.eeoc.gov. Hope it helps!
