  1. If you have just graduated, or left school/college/loony bin, put accent on qualifications.

I assume, since you do not seem to have made one before, that you are a school leaver.

HEADER:   14 point arial, bold;  Full name  centre justified

11 point arial normal; address and phone numbers (one line)

FOOTER:    6 point arial: page # of #  left or right justified

Set margins at 35mm left and right (allowing plenty of room for notes to be written

Body text: 11 point arial (a square font has been shown to be easiest assimilated

Top 2 lines: BOLD:  short personal statement, 2 lines, what you want to pursue, in terms of work/career..... short, sharp punchy!

    2 x cr/lf

    Bold heading: EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    1 x cr/lf

    normal font: School Name

    1 x cr/lf

double indent; bullet points list educational qualifications. If more than five, group them in fives.

    2 x cr/lf

Bold heading: VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (if any)

    1 x cr/lf

    Vocational Institute/apprenticeship/company

    1 x cr/lf

double indent; bulleted list as above.

    2 x cr/lf

Bold heading: WORK EXPERIENCE (if any)

    2 x cr/lf

Bold 2/3 lines: short statement as to where you want to be in 5-10 years' time. short, sharp, punchy.

    Page 2:

    Work history, if any

lh: Company name               rh dates, from/to

    1 x cr/lf

    centre: job title

    1 x cr/lf

short notes on job details, who working under, who supervising (if anybody) list of duties. reason for leaving/sporadicity of engagement....... (holiday job, weekend job while at school, work experience break from college, etc.)

    2 x cr/lf

    repeat for each job/voluntary work.

    3 x cr/lf

Extramural activities (no more than 3!)

    Interests

    Driving license Y/N

    Ongoing training/education

This may sound back to front, but you have around 30 seconds to grab the attention of the first CV analyser. So read the first page against your maw's kitchen timer, set for 30 secs. to find how much the guy is going to read.

Make sure there is bags of white space for recruiter notes.

Lay off the enthusiasm for extreme sports and anything, which might seem dangerous! (bad for insurance and high probability of prolonged absence through injury!)

  2. It depends on how old you are and what kind of job you are applying for. You can find sample cv's on google. I've just done mine and i used this website to help me
