Question:

How do I make a latte at home?

I have an old fashione (but good) basic filter coffee maker, because I like my coffee strong, plain and black.

I have a friend who only drinks latte, so what is the best way for me to make her one at my house? How much coffee and how much water should I use in my machine to make it strong enough to be like an espresso shot that I can mix with the hot milk?

  1. Make a standard pot of filter.  Fill the cup 1/3 with filter coffee, one third with warmed milk and 33% frothed milk.

Filter is never going to be as strong as espresso because of the process used to make it.

  2. *Cafe Latte

1 Bottle NESTLE CARNATION Evaporated Lowfat Milk

4 tsp. TASTER'S CHOICE 100% Pure Instant Coffee

    3 tsp. Granulated sugar

    Ice cubes

    1. COMBINE evaporated milk, instant coffee and sugar in 2-cup glass measure.

    2. Microwave on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute; stir well.

    3. Pour over ice cubes

    *Coffee Latte

1 1/4 cups regular grind espresso or other dark roast coffee

1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces

    6 cups water

    1/3 cup Equal® Spoonful*

    2 1/2 cups fat-free milk

    Ground cinnamon or nutmeg

Place espresso and cinnamon stick in filter basket of drip coffee pot. Brew coffee with water. Stir Equal® into coffee. Pour into 8 mugs or cups.

Heat milk in small saucepan until steaming. Pour half of milk into blender container; cover. Process at high speed until foamy, about 15 seconds. Pour milk into 4 mugs of coffee, spooning foam on top. Repeat with remaining milk and coffee. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg before serving.

    # May substitute 8 packets Equal sweetener

    *Caramel Latte recipe

    Makes 2 servings.

1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk

1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping plus additional for drizzle, if desired

    4 teaspoons instant coffee, divided

1 cup very hot water, divided

Microwave evaporated milk and ice cream topping in small, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH for 2 minutes or until very hot. Carefully pour mixture into blender; cover. Blend on high for 1 minute or until very frothy on top.

Put 2 teaspoons coffee granules into each 12-ounce coffee mug. Add 1/2 cup hot water to each mug; stir. Gently pour milk mixture into each mug, spooning foam on top. Thinly drizzle foam with ice cream topping, if desired.

#NOTE: You may use other ice cream topping flavors such as chocolate or strawberry instead of caramel topping, if desired.

    *Cafe Latte

4 ounces Italian roast espresso, brewed

4 ounces milk sweetener, steamed (as desired)

ice cube (made from leftover flavored coffee, if desired)

    cinnamon, ground (for garnish) (optional)

Add (sweetened) hot espresso and steamed milk to a tall glass of ice. Stir.

If desired, sprinkle top with ground cinnamon.

    Serve with a straw.

*Simple Caffe Latte (Cafe Quality at Home!)

3 ounces freshly brewed espresso (or strong coffee, double strength recommended)

    12 ounces skim milk

Pour cold milk into a saucepan and heat on medium heat just until too hot to put your finger into it.

    Pour espresso into 2 mugs.

Pour the steamed milk into mugs over the brewed espresso.

    ENJOY :-)
