Question:

How do I make a mouse I plugged into my computer start working?

I have a mouse that I bought in place of using my laptop's faulty touch pad. When I plug the mouse's wire into the port, the mouse lights up. However, the pointer does not move when I move the mouse...

I disabled the touch pad and searched everywhere under Control Panel and cannot find out how to get it to work...

What am I doing wrong? I'm using a Windows Vista, Acer laptop. Thanks in advance.

  1. If it's USB try using another port, sometimes they don't pick up straightaway and then miss it, if it's a PS2 port then you need to have it plugged in as the laptop fires up.

Out of interest what is the make/model of your laptop, I might have a replacement touchpad for it.

  2. maybe its the usb slot that the mouse is in try inserting it into a different slot prehaps?

    worth a try =)

  3. Did you put new batteries in your mouse???

  4. you have to restart the computer

  5. it should work automatically as you plug it in im not sure what it could be?

  6. If it came with a CD install that and return it if it keeps being dumb, you might wanna check compatibility, i have a wireless mouse a logitech one try them.

  7. U need to restart the computer i think

  8. You might not have the appropriate drivers needed for the mouse to work. The mouse could also just not be compatible with Windows Vista. I think you can find the drivers online if you go to the mouse's website, although the drivers should have been included with the mouse. It could also just not be installed right. What I would do is go to Control Panel and troubleshoot the mouse. Hope this helped
