How do I make a sandy beach?

I live on a Lake in MI, and am wondering if its possible for me to make my frontage into a sandy beach without paying some company all kinds of $$$.

You can buy sand and place it on the shoreline but you will be paying someone for the sand. You also have to consider that the lake will erode away the sand so this will only be temporary.

Just get a c**p load of sand and WA-LA! Sandy beach. Should look very natural and I wouldn't think too many snakes would live in the sand. Its going to be great!
