  1. I did this experiment in elementary school: Mash some iron (preferably iron filings) and sulfur together using a mortar and pestle, put the stuff in a test tube then heat.

    It stank like c**p.


  2. CuSO4 (cupric sulfate) + Fe (steel wool)= FeSO4 (ferrous sulfate) + Cu

    By the way, the answerer below was slightly incorrect

    take iron filings and mix them with SULFURIC ACID....not sulfur.....sulfur will not give you the oxygen atoms needed to produce ferrous SULFATE.....

    :D the second option smells worse though
