How do I make a spiral tie dye shirt with black streaks?

Click that link so you know what I'm talking about. I know how to do spirals, but how do I do the black parts?

  1. Dye your spiral as usual, applying fiber reactive dye in wedges, then dip one side of the whole shirt in a very shallow layer of strong black dye, or brush the black dye mixture on one side. This style is often called stained glass tie-dye.

    It's best if you use at least twice as much dye powder when mixing up your black dye. Procion MX dye is great for this; never use an all-purpose dye such as Rit.


  2. I'd think you'd start with a black t-shirt.
