How do I make a teddybear with my sewing machine?

I have 3 questions:

1. How do I get the teddy bear to have those "roundish" features?

2. How do I get the nose to puff out like a dome?

3. What kind of fabrics would be best at a reasonable price to make one?

Thanx for any help! (Please don't comment if you don't have a answer)

  1. what you can do is go to build a bear and they can maybe teach you there

  2. you should get a pattern to help keep things proportionate , there are different types of nose also.

  3. You could go out to fabricland and buy the teddy bear out line and it shows you the steps to follow and sew. To make the nose puff out you just have to put a little more stuffing in it. The best kinds of fabrics would be the ones that are soft, cuddly, but not too thick or else it'll be hard to sew on.  Hope this helps!!!

  4. I'm not sure about making one with a machine, but many craft stores have "no sew" kits that have clear instructions.

  5. 1 .  Find a Pattern you like.

    2 . Stuffing

3 . Fake fur or even a old coat or any other type of clothing from a yard sale or flea market.

    * Make sure you have Heavey Duty Needles for your sewing Machine and go slow and easy.

Good Luck...I love making stuffed animals and the old coats are a lot of fun to works with .

  6. You can go to  Micheals. It is a Arts and Crafts store. It has many differnet fabrics such as felt and minky. The Minky Fur is a very soft fabric that is used for teddy bears.  It is a very reasonable price from  5 dollars to 15 dollars a small roll. you sew it in a circle on the sewing machine but dont worry if it looks a bit square. Then you trim the square edges off and stuff (this means you dont sew the whole thing toghtherbefore stuffing. To get a doomed spaced nose you have to sew in a square like shape and stuff more then the rest to make it stand out against the body.

    I HOPE THIS HELPS

  7. I'd suggest buying a copy of one of the bear patterns from Carol's Zoo and simply following the instructions -- they're easy and thorough.  For an easy to work with fabric, I'd suggest a woven wool -- pretty easy to obtain a nice one if you buy a used garment at a thrift shop.

  8. I can't help you cause I am so bad at sewing and I don't know anything bout it.. =[

Maybe, you make a bear costume. and put something in the costume and you sew it.. =]

  9. first you need a good pattern. Almost any fabric will make bears. I have a lace bear stuffed with leaves and flowers for a potpouri thingy that my daughter made for me. Sorry, I don't know which pattern she used, but it had to be simple.

The nose is cone shaped piece of fabric stitched to front top and bottom which are rounded with the ears stitched in before putting the back on the bear. This bears arms are tacked onto the shoulders separately as are the legs.

Go to the fabrics department and look in the toys sections of the pattern books. There should be several patterns. Read the instruction sheets in each of the patterns before deciding which pattern to get.

Yes, you can do this!!! Yes, I have made bears with cotton fabrics and 60/40 polycotton fabrics as well as fake fur fabrics. Recommend first one be of simple fabric like muslin. Then you can get fancy and make a fake fur one.
