How do I make an image as the background on PowerPoint 2003?

Right-click on the slide and select "Background".

In the dialog box that appears, click the little arrow in the box below the Background fill window and select "Fill Effects".

Another dialog box will open. Click the "Picture" tab (it's the last on the right at the top).

Then click the "Select Picture" button, navigate to where you've stored the picture, select it and click "Insert".

Click "OK" and then "Apply" if you want the pic only in the current slide or "Apply to all" if you want it as the background for all slides.
