I was wondering if there is any way to make my sheets softer without using fabric softener. I hear salt works.

  1. Salt softens water but it might work.Downy is pretty good, but it's a fabric softener spesificly made for that.

I think salt should work. Just make sure that you rinse everything out very well.

  2. Yep it does.  Get a sink or bucket of coarse salt and for good measure add fabric softener.  Then put the sheets in and soak over night and then wash regularly

Works on jeans and other fabrics as well.

  3. Try Baking soda, they have a large box near the detergent.  It works similarly to salt and Vinegar both as it softens the water and allows your detergent to work to the best of its ability and helps prevent detergent build up that can reduce the softness of various materials.

Also if you can line dry your sheets, that often helps especially if there is a nice breeze.

  4. There are a number of products that can help soften your sheets.  There is vinegar, softener, salt and a natural one called chinese soapberry.  The chinese soapberry can be ordered online and usually comes with a small bag and is thrown into the laundry, it not only washes the clothes and softens them, but leaves a very pleasant natural scent on them.  I am presently growing my own trees to grow my own.  I hang my sheets out on the clothesline on a nice breezy day, after turning them in the dryer for like 10 minutes just to break the crispy on them, they come out FABULOUS, soft and smelling WONDERFUL!  Hope this helps you get softer sheets.  Good luck!

  5. I use vinegar. It doesn't work quite as well as softener, but I really like it. It does get rid of static though. :)
