  1. This is going to be crazy and ethereal, but:

Music is a living entity.  It is everywhere.  Forget about what might be easiest and what might seem quickest: you want to build a lasting relationship with music and it will quickly become one of the greatest things in your life.

What kind of music do you listen to?  What instrument always turns your head with its sound?  When there is a solo, what sounds do you love to hear?

For me this instrument was the double bass.  For my best friend it was the flute.  Another friend liked the guitar.

Once you've picked an instrument, GET LESSONS.  Self-teaching is awesome and useful, but for a musical foundation there's nothing like someone experienced to get you going.  Build a strong foundation, and the rest will be that much easier and awesome!

    Happy music-making!

  2. the piano is probably the easiest to learn because its easy to play by sound.  try finding piano tutorials on the interent from youtube or google and you can learn to play those songs.  once you get the idea you could prob fool around and figure out something yourself

i tried learning to play the guitar this summer, youtube had some pretty good tutorials

    guitar: http://ca.youtube.com/user/Remotruker

    hope that helps :)

  3. best way to start learning an instrument was when you were younger. when you are holding down a job and or going to school and doing homework and or raising kids and or whatever other responsibilities we must take care of it is nearly impossible to become a great musician unless you do nothing else outside of your responsibilities and playing that instrument. you must ask yourself the question and you must make a decision.... is it worth it? nowadays the best instruments to learn would probably either by developing your voice or playing guitar for the fact that one you already own your voice, two you can pay for a good starter guitar for a relatively low price, and three there is a wealth of free knowledge out on the internet for either instrument. if you would want to take it far you should probably invest in voice lessons or instrument lessons (whatever you may choose). *Note* there is such a phenomena called tone deafness... if you can't sing a tune or match a note in your vocal range after a couple trys you probably won't be able to sing well at all it's sad but true if you know you can't sing chances are you can't sing. But you always have the option for learning another instrument. good luck.
