How do I make my 39' x 16' kidney shaped pool smaller using only the 3-1/2 foot depth shallow end?

Has anyone done a DIY project to make their large pool (about 25,000 gallons), to a much smaller (about 6,000 gallon) wading pool?. I want to just use the 3-1/2' shallow end and not use it for swimming but rather lounging. I think I could do this by constructing a well reinforced concrete wall wall across the shallow 1/3 of the pool, adding a new leaf skimmer in that wall then connect up to the plumbing of the old skimmer, add a drain with return in the lowest part of the wall and voila' have a mini pool. Any thoughts? Does it sound to crazy? I realize there is demolition, concrete work and redecking etc. to take care of but I never use the old pool, hate deep water and cold water and think would suit my particular lifestyle much better. Unfortunately I am on a very limited budget. Thanks for any input :-)

  1. This could be done, but it will be expensive. If the pool needs major work anyway, it might make sense. If the pool is in good condition, it would be hard to rationalize putting in this kind of money.

Unless you are very skilled, this is not a DIY project.
