In both GNOME and KDE I have no window decorations (http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/11253.html) but I can't seem to uninstall compizconfig-backend-gconf and compizconfig-settings-manager without uninstalling compiz using apt. How else can I make my window decorations come back?

  1. you have tried  this ...

    cd <untarred directory>

    ./configure

    make

    su

    <enter root password>

    make install

  2. If you have the Compiz icon installed you should be able to use it to select your window manager, which might restore your window decorations.

  3. Alt+F2

    metacity --replace
