However you can prolong its lifetime by reducing exposure to electrical surges via high quality surge protection that you replace each year, having the monitor shut down when there is no user.

Beyond those practical steps, you can engage in foolish and impractical steps like shutting it off, preserving it in an "anaseptic" environment, etc.  The problem with this is the unit will become obsolete and you will have gained nothing as it cannot be used once it is obsolete.

I dont think you can make it last forever. One way or another you will have to replace it someday. Electrical stuff are not guaranteed to work forever. specially a monitor. you can probably replace it with an affortable one online or at one of the stores.
