Question:

How do I make my Pyramid Amplifier turn on/off with the remote wire?

I recently installed a Pyramid PB180PX amplifier (I realize these are junk, but I just had it lying around) and I connected everything to where it all needed to go. When I use my Sony head unit, I get nice sound out of the sub connected to the amp, although when I turn my car off, the amp stays powered on when the head unit turns off. After running my remote wire, I tested the wire with a power test light and there is power coming from the wire when the unit is on, and the power stops when the head unit is off.

But when I connect the wire to the amp and turn the car off, the amp will not turn off. There is no manual power switch, so the only way I have been able to get it to turn off when not in use is by removing the fuse. I would like it to work automatically though.

My question is: when the amp is powered off with the remote wire, will the power LED stay illuminated? If not, what could I be doing wrong? Like I said, I tested the wire and it works like it should.

  1. I'm not 100% sure why it would stay on but check to see if there is an independent power switch on the amp.  If there isn't, install a breaker switch on the remote wire that you can flip on and off from your seat.

  2. sounds like the wire from the head unit is still hot, but you said you tested it, and it's not.  Do you have a 12v cross to the lead wire somewhere by accident?  If not, then perhaps you have a short in the amplifier itself that is causing the 12v cross.  At any rate, here's what i did to mine (no 12v remote to my head unit), I connected the remote wire to the #10 fuse under my dash that powers the radio, when the car shuts the radio off, it shuts off the amp also.

  3. it could be the radio. i dont know what is it about sony radios but all that i have encountered you have to open the door in order for the radio to turn off at that it might stay on. is your detachable face if so i would take it off. Also check the wiring in the back make sure that it is connected right. If you have an motorized antenna disconnect it and put it to the power wire.
