Question:

How do I make my bedroom door squeak?

My bedroom door used to have this squeak that would allow me to know when someone is coming in and out of my room(people tend not to knock). Recently a family member used some sort of liquid causing my door not to squeak, now my grandmother could be standing behind me and I won't hear her enter or even know how long shes been there. I tried spraying the hinges with water hoping to cause rust and start squeaking again, any other advice?

  1. Try hanging a metal hanger on the back of your door and attach a small bell-tied on with a ribbon-it will work very well as a "people noise alert system".

  2. if you can get  like those hooks that you s***w in cup hooks then get a couple of necklaces or chains or a bell or a wind chime. hang it on the door.

  3. Remove the pins and brackets and spray them down real good with brake cleaner. then rinse them well with hot water. Let them air dry and put everything back together.

  4. try taking out a hinge pin, lay it on a hard surface(like concrete) and hit it once with a hammer. this will bend it a little, causing it to rub the hinge. it may take a few days to squeak, but it will. don't tell grandma I told you how to do this!
