How do I make my carpet soft again??

Question

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make my carpet nice and soft again as it did when I first moved in. I clean it once a month with a rug doctor and vacumm when I need to and do not know why it just does not feel soft anymore. Any suggestions are welcome. It feels soft and rough at the same time right now but it is not as soft as I would like. Thanks...

try using the Woolite hand washing detergent with vinegar instead of rug doctor ingredient.

The reason it feels stiff is because of all soap residues you are putting into the carpet and not removing. Most professional carpet cleaners leave no residue because the carpet is pre-treated first and then rinsed with water and a fiber rinse to remove this residue.

If you choose to clean your carpet on your own - DO NOT put soap in the tank. Spray it on with a pump sprayer and extract with clean water. This will leave minimal soap in the carpet.

The residues also cause rapid re-soiling and will permanently cause damage to the carpet.

Rinse with only water!!!

Personally, I think you are cleaning it to much! Only shampoo only once every six months or so & vacuum reguraly....

maybe some liquid fabric softener the nest time you have them cleaned ask them to add some when they are steaming them .good luck

Rug doctor's do a good job of putting the water & cleaning agent down but not extracting it. I would get a proffessional cleaner once a year or 6 mo's. Also depends on the quality of the carpet.

Sounds like you have a lot of soap build up in your carpet, and it makes like a starched shirt. This much soap will also make your carpet dirtier, as the soap is like a glue for dirt to stick to.  I would get a professional rug operation in to clean your carpets, at least once, to get the build up off them.
