How do I make my cockatiels get used to me, and eventually like me?

They won't let me come near them, or they both bite my hand, but all I've read about them is that they are very docile birds, and I see those pictures of people holding them with their fingers... how can I make it happen?

  1. How long have you had them?  Are they in the same cage?

If you have only had them a couple days then they aren't used to you yet give them time.

If they are in the same cage then most likely they are bonded to each other or they will bond to each other instead of you.

You just need to work with them.  They will eventually stop biting.

  2. black_su is right the more you touch them and interactwith them they start to bond with you. but if they are in the same cage theystart to bond together and then eventually dont really want anything to do with the owner i have a male and female cockatiel and i had my female first and she always came to me and  played with me and never tried to bite me then i thought she was lonely so i got a male and i played with him the same but once i put the two together it was like he had total control iover her and now i can pick her up but she  always flys right back to him she hates to leave his side andhe dont like me so good luck

  3. the best place i know to find out how to do this is from a book that tells you about birds, their care, their behavior, how to read their body language, etc. go on amazon.com and look for "cockatiel" or "parrot behavior" book. there are plenty of books like that.

it always takes time for a bird to get used to you and like you. it took my cockatiel a few months, but mine was not hand-fed. also having 2 of them makes them bond with each other and makes it harder for them to bond with you, but they can certainly be taught not to bite or be scared of you.
