I have a male golden retriever who will be 1 years old on January 5th and since we got him on March he has the habit of humping my leg.

I want to let my dog know I am the dominant one.

Is it too late to change my dogs habit? If no how can I change him?

  1. Oh come on. You know the answer to this question. Get him neutered.

It has nothing to do with domination, it's what unaltered dogs do.

  2. neuter him and he's just a pup. My Annie, before she was spayed and when she was a pup, she would hump my brother's back. They grow out of it.

  3. Getting him neutered would be a great start!

  4. OMG Sammy that is too funny!  I can definitely relate to this annoying and with company over the house: well  extremely embarrassing behavior!  My first Bichon Frise was so horney that i thought by having her spayed would do the trick.  Well that didn't work out.  So to get to your question I will .try to provide you with some remedies.  First try to gently shake her off.  Keep on reprimanding him with a firm "no".  Make sure he knows that you mean business.  If you are wearing long pants then spray them with a bitter apple spray that is available at Petco.

To save a few bucks you can make a deter- ant out of a solution consisting of  3 teaspoons of vinegar to one quart of water.Mix in a clean spray bottle & be sure to avoid his eyes.

Good luck.  Hope this solution is the solution.

  5. If he isn't already, he needs to be neutered.

  6. You should definately get him neutered. Not only will it stop him from humping, but he will stop marking (peeing on random things) and being territorial. Also, dogs that aren't neutered are at a very high risk of testicular cancer by the time they are about 5 years old. It's never too late to be neutered, but younger dogs tend to do better under anesthesia, so definately get it done within the next year! The sooner you get him neutered, the better it will be for both you and him! =)
