How do I make my emperor 400 filter stop rattling?

I got it used in a trade for my 55 gallon tank. I'm not sure if the impeller is sitting incorrectly or what. Is there a "trick" to it? Do I need to order another one? Does it need a cleaning? Is it worn out? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

if you mean as in rattling, that it makes a noise, then yes, the impeller might not be properly placed in it or you have dirt in your impeller compartment

take it apart, rinse everything out completely and put the impeller back in

make sure it's completely straight in

if that doesn't help you might need a new filter

It could need replacement, but usually just needs a good, hard cleaning.
