Question:

How do I make my frizzy hair smooth again?

So when I was younger, I used to have really straight, smooth, soft hair. That was until I turned 9 and took up swimming lessons - I swam for an hour every week under the sun without a swimming cap because my hair was too short to be bundled up inside one.

Anyway, ever since I started swimming my hair got increasingly frizzy (the chlorine I think) but I never really used conditioner or anything because I hadn't realised the effect then. I'm 16 now and my hair is like straw, has been for YEARS, what do I do? I condition regularly, and I tried different types of leave-in conditioners before I realised that they only lasted for twenty minutes at the most. I hate having frizzy hair and the climate is hot and humid all year-round.

Any solution for frizzy hair, APART FROM leave-in conditioners?

  1. You're right...leave-in conditioneres just temporarily coat your hair, and can make it VERY heavy/greasy as well!

You should actually, though I know it sucks, go to a nice salon, and show them your hair and say "what can I do".  That way you can get a professional opinion on your hair specifically.

A few things off the top of my head though (I swam for 8yrs!): try usuing Ultraswim shampoo AND conditioner after every swim.  Also, having gone back to swimming recently and seeing the same frizzing, I started using Wella Smoothing shampoo and conditioner (I think it's really for color-treated hair but it has worked WONDERS) and you can get that (red bottle) at most salons.

    Good luck!

  2. You could got to a hair dresser and ask about a conditioning mask. That's like a leave in but you only leave it in for a while and than rinse it out. if your hair is as dry as you say it is than DO NOT shampoo it every day. Soaps and shampoos suck moisture out of your hair. So maybe shampoo every other day and condition every day. Also, to control frizz you can get a smoothing milk or an anti-frizz serum. Those you can get anywhere that sells cheap shampoos. Garnier has an anti-humidity smoothing milk that works good to control frizz. Make sure if you don't already, you get regular trims to keep your hair healthy. Good luck!

  3. i saw the girl before mention special shampoo + conditioner for swimming, that would be a good start.

also i recommend "De Lorenzo - rejuvin8 the ends" this is a hair moisturizer, it will reduce the frizziness by a little bit and protect it from heat which is very important.

and try getting a protein treatment. you use these once a week, put it on your hair after you wash it and leave it in for a while (it would say how long on the back of the container). Then you wash it off.

this would be important as chlorine dries your hair and gets rid of all its essential proteins, so if i were you, id be using this protein treatment. I recommend the SP brand.

**They don't sell these brands at normal supermarket/grocery stores. You have to go to a professional salon shop**

also, absolutely NO bleaching and try not to flat iron it too often. If you do iron it, it would be good to use the De Lorenzo product, as i mentioned before, it protects your hair from heat.

    I hope i helped ^-^
