My guinea pig sort of thrashes when I hold her, and then she settles in my lap and she's happy. i stroke her sometimes and she loves it but i want her to get used to me and i think she's sort of scared. getting a bigger cage isn't an option because my parents and there isn't that much room in my uhh... room won't allow it so if there's a homemade cage idea that would be great too! also my guinea pig sort of hates apples/oranges... those kinda things and that sort of doesn't help either but i really love my guinea pig and i want her to be happy

  1. My guinea pigs hate fruit as well.

Even the pickiest guinea pigs loves these:

Also for a homemade cage idea...

It's cool you've decided to build one! Just make sure it's inside, because guinea pigs are very sensitive to the heat and cold. :)

This site tells you how to make a cage on your own! ^

This is what you will need:

Required (in addition to Cubes and Coroplast)

Scissors or a box cutter. Regular scissors will work, but a heavy-duty pair is better.

    Pen or Magic Marker

    Tape measure or Yard Stick

Yard stick or straight edge for marking

    Clear packing tape

    Razor blade or box cutter

    This is optional:

    Optional

Cable ties to secure connections or if you run out of connectors.

Organizational shelving for a cat-proof top.

Table or desktop space to put the cage on! We recommend a folding work table for 2 x 4 grid cages and up (5' x 30" table top needed for a 2 x 4 grid cage). They are available at many office supply stores for around $30 - $35.

Pliers or "RoboGrip" pliers to squeeze together stubborn grid connections.

    Preparation time: 30- 1 or 2 hours

    Hope this helps!

  2. You don't. I had two a few years ago. They were cute but worthless.

  3. i had a similar problem. if she runs from you when u want to hold her, dont force her to come out. but, dont keep leaving her alone if she's scared of you, because if u do she'll learn that if she runs away u'll leave her alone and she'll probably keep running away. find out what kind of treats she likes and try offering them to her by hand. dont make loud noises (obviously). be patient with her eventually she'll like you~

  4. since she seems happy in your lap she is not scared of you, just being held up high. Try making sure she is well supported when you hold her so she does not feel as tho she may fall. Also, and most importantly, she may never like the things you want her to. She likes what she like so you may have to adapt to whats best for her. Not her adapting to make you happy.
