My partner and I are moving back to my parents for a while but she can't have our cat inside due to allergies. We used to have our cat inside so she's used to it.. She wont stop meowing and it's driving me insane. I don't know how to get her used to it. I know how to get dogs used to it but when it comes to a cat I'm clueless. We've kept her inside for about 2 months so she's definately used to being inside. But it's either she gets used to being outside or I can't have her anymore :(

  1. get a kennel and leave your cat in it all day that is what i did with mine and it worked

  2. find her a new home, its not fair to the cat

  3. You CANNOT keep a cat outside. Its just a bad idea. Bring the cat to a shelter. Its better for the cat.

  4. Take 4/5 of a canned cat food treat, and give to to the cat outside. Then Smear the 1/5 left of it on /near the sidewalk entrance to the house. This way for sure she'll know ehre home is.

Then place her regular food and water dishes outside . She will beg to come in sometimes... but she'll get used to it. As long as you always have food and water available, she'll be just fine. =)

  5. I'm was trying to do the same thing a couple months ago and i first started out by bringing my cat with a leash 3 times a day. i held on to the leash and let her explore. then i let go of the leash and followed her around. i also trained her to listen to her name. every time she tried crossing the street i said "cookie" and she would stop. now she goes outside and doesn't cross the street.

    hope i helped :)

  6. Please, please..just put her in another room or find a kennel you could

put her in until you move.  Do not let her be an outside cat if she is not use to it.  That would be very mean of you!  That is your baby!!

  7. Can't you put her in a separate room where your parents don't have to go? Placing an inside cat outside will stress her out, that's why she is meowing all the time. Plus, she is more likely to get injured or run off. Try your best to figure out a plan where your cat can remain in safety inside. Even if you have a garage that she can stay in, that's better than nothing.

  8. Making your inside cat and outside cat will make your inside cat a DEAD cat.  This cat's used to living indoors and now you're seemingly surprised that the cat is howling in fear that you've tossed it outdoors????  How very sad for this poor animal!

If you can no longer care for this cat properly then please surrender her to a shelter so that someone who can keep her indoors where she belongs - and where she's used to living - can adopt her.  Where did you get this cat?  If from a shelter then you most likely signed a contract stating you would keep this cat safely INDOORS.  So if you did you're now in violation of that contract.

  9. I don't agree with making cats purely outdoor cats.  I suggest you either invest in an outdoor cat cage that is about 5 feet wide by 10 feet long by 6 feet high with some shelves and a shelter in it.  If you let her run loose, she could make a neighbor mad (poisoning or shooting of the cat) or she could be run over.  The problem is it may be easy to access by the public and she'll be exposed to extreme heat and cold.

You may want to just look into getting her a new home.  (Inspect the home first.)  If she is a kitten, she should be easy to place.

  10. Well, it's better safe than sorry so if there are other things you can do besides locking her up outside and letting her roam free, you should consider them

    1) Could a friend or a neighbor watch her and keep her indoors?

    2) Could you keep her confined to a room?

    3) Could you improvise a cat cage/tree outside?  In china I've seen really big and extensive cat tree's made out of cheap cages.  All you need is some creativity and something to cut the bars on the cage (and I'm talking about cages with pretty thin bars so they'd be easy to cut or break of.)

I can't really say why you're cat is meowing.  It could be separation anxiety, as cats get stressed with sudden changes and such.  She also might feel a bit unsafe since she's use to being inside where its safe or being around you, which makes her feel safe.

I don't think toys will do much.  If your cat is outside, there must be hundreds of things that can keep her occupied.  Leaves blowing, grass moving, bugs, etc.

  11. Your cat will probably end up dying if you keep her outside, either from disease or another animal. If nothing else, say goodbye and put her in the Humane Society. It's the least you could do.

  12. It's all in the personality of the cat. Most outdoor cats are just born to be outdoors. If you got your cat from a store or shelter, it would most likley be an indoor cat. Besides, even an outdoor cat would have to come into the house to sleep or eat, it can't stay outside forever or it will die. Speaking of cats, mine is attacking my head right now... he loves hair!

  13. Try gradually letting her in and out getting her used to it. When I trained my cat for this I put her in her carrier and took it outside and left the door open to the cage so she could explore and still have somewhere to feel safe. Good luck!
