How do I make my kitchen sink smell better?

I have a septic tank and well water (with no disposal) and I swear that the drain smells! I think the smell is coming from the inside somehow. How do I make it smell better? I was always taught to put lemon or orange peels down the drain and turn on the disposal, but since I don't have one, I don't know what to do. Any ideas? I'm not sure whats safe to put down the drain either, with the septic tank.

  1. Check to make sure the vent pipe is not plugged. climb onto the roof with a hose turn it on and shove it down the vent pipe. then try the orange peal thing

  2. Just type in "well water smell" and numerous sites pop up.

    Good Luck.

  3. use baking soda down the drain

  4. Do you have a p trap under your sink? If not, it would help to put one in. If you do, you may want to take it off, clean it out, and put it back on.

  5. clean your d**n house #1 and probably the smell is gas and crappy diapers from all your kids, lol... then pour either bleach diluted with water or peroxide! :p

  6. I use a lot of water and a little Clorox.  If you object to the Clorox, put baking soda followed by white vinegar.  But for long term...you have to go with the Clorox.

  7. When water is not constantly going through the drains, you can get an odor that actually is a reverb back from the sewer tank.  Keep water flowing and the smell should go away.  If you are using RID, then I wouldn't suggest pouring straight clorox or other bleach, as it will disrupt the microbes eating at the deposits in the septic tank.

  8. If ur kitchen drain don't have a Garbage disposer, all u can do is pour some pine sol to the drain and let some water in to seal the P-trap.

This prevent the B/O gas (Methane gas) from coming into the house.
