How do I make my mismatched college furniture seem more together

Question

I recently graduated and moved to a new city for a job, but I was forced to take my mismatched college furniture because I can't afford new furniture and my college stuff is still in good shape. How can I make my mismatched furniture look nicer?

Painting furniture does wonders and so do slipcovers (if needed at all).

You are doing it right by living with what you have right now instead of going to load up your credit card.

If you have time, watch HGTV and DIY. They have marvelous ways

to make new from old.

You could always try slip covers for your couches and chairs. For wooden furniture pieces refinish by sanding off existing paint and either use wood stain or paint another color. Black always looks classy.

depends on how much effort you want to go to...

u could get some fabric of ur style choice and cover some of them up...i've 3 stoareg boxes that have been with me at uni and i have a ying-yang fabric cover over them, looks really good.

or, you could always repaint them if you can, might take some effort though.

or u could just leave it, mismatched furniture sometimes has a chrismatic charm!

Slip covers!  If you can't afford them, then get some matching sheets in the color you want and cover the couch, chair, etc...

Some tables (end tables, kitchen table, dining room table, even coffee tables) also look nice with a cloth cover draping them.  You could cover them in a different but coordinating cloth.

Also, I have seen where it's becoming (or maybe already was) a big thing to paint wooden furniture.

If it's wooden furniture, you can paint or refinish it.  It it's upholstered, you can get some slipcovers or even make some out of sheets like tie dyes, batiks, etc.
