My situation: My verizon Actiontec router is in the basement, I have horrible wireless signal in my room and in most of the house. I have a computer upstairs that is connected by ethernet to the router(runs through the walls). I want to use that ethernet coming from the gateway router to put another wireless router online, a Netgear WGR614. When I use the netgear router's wizard it says if I want to this this with a gateway router I have to put it in bridge mode to make it work. How do I do this?

So put simply, I want to put a router online with an ethernet cable connected to the main router, and computer. Also any other tips on doing this are appreciated.

  1. Follow the Netgear Directions from the knowledge base.

    http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files...

    Basically a few steps.

    1. Disable the configuration assistant

    2. Using a LAN port configure the 614 (do this wired)

    3. Disable DHCP server on the 614 and put in a STATIC LAN address for the other router

    4. Connect the primary router to a LAN port on the 614

    5. Set the SSID of BOTH units so they match

    6. Use your new system

Use the link - the pictures and steps are all on the Netgear Site.
