  1. In the long run it will be less expensive to buy the coconut oil. You would need oodles of coconuts to make a small amount. The manufacturers use ALL of the parts for other product.

  2. I Break the coconut in pieces and carefully pull them out of the hard shell with a knife. After that you grind it and put some Luke warm water and  sift it on a see through fabric until you get the milk.  Excellent to make the famous  Honduran Conch soup ( Sopa de Caracol). It is a  famous aphrodisiac.

There is no way I was going to try to answer this one for you, but I did find these great links for different ways to make it.  There are also ways to make it by boiling the water out, but I felt the cold pressed method was probably more healthy.

After reading your question I was curious too, because coconut oil is just so expensive at the store.  Where do you get coconuts for only 50 cents each... that is great!

  4. I LOVE fresh coconut, you are very lucky !!

How To Make Your Own Coconut Oil

    1. Select only fresh and mature quality coconuts.

    2. Split coconuts and collect coconut water.

    3. Grate coconuts and collect coconut meat.

    4. Bag the coconut meat. Use fine white nylon mesh bag.

    5. Place bag in a Cold Press* machine. At home, you can hand press using gloves. Collect coconut milk.

    6. Soak the pressed bag in coconut water and press for a second time. Collect more coconut milk.

    7. Allow the coconut milk to settle undisturbed in a cabinet at 32 deg C for 10-17 hours. Coconut oil will naturally separate from water and proteins.

    8. Carefully collect and filter the oil and avoid mixing with the bottom water layer. The oil is colorless.
