Question:

How do I make my sets to the outside more consistent?

My high school volleyball tryouts are in about a week and I'm stressing to make sure that I'm the best I can be to make a higher team than last year. Lately my sets have been getting more consistent and I'm improving after I went to a few volleyball camps. The most recent camp I went to, the coach was telling me that my outside sets need to be way out to the volleyball pole, but my coach at home has been telling me that those type of sets should land just before the outside line and close to the net. Please help I don't know who to listen to, I just want to do my best at tryouts.

Thanks!!

  1. you should listen to your school coach because your school coach is the one that will put you on a higher team not your camp coach. but a good setter knows where each hitter wants the ball and sets to there needs. like me i need a high 5 but not all the way out to the pole. so my setter sets me that and im a beast! lol

    good luck!

  2. i'm a setter at my high school and i know that sets that are out to the pole are to far outside. Just make them like a foot inside of the pole and make them high too. And try to set so that the ball goes up and starts to fall right about a foot inside the pole.

  3. You should pay attention to your school coach because she's the one your going to be playing for(hopefully!).  She knows where the girls would want their sets to go.  You can mix up a little.  When you go to play at camps and clubs, you can do both but if you school coach tells you that she wants the sets to be just before the outside line and close to the net, then that is where you need to set them.  Listen to your coach always because she knows what is best for the team.
