How do I make my trucks throttle more snappy?

I have a 96 ford ranger. when I rev it up the rpms go up fast but go back down slowly.

  1. Trying lubricating the throttle, or check the throttle plate inside to see if there is gum or garbage over the years that bind it up.


  2. That slow return to idle is built in. It's an emissions thing. On carburetor engines, they used to use a vacuum or electric deceleration hold back. Now it's part of te computer. If you check your linkage under the hood, I think you'll see that the throttle is indeed closing instantly, but the engine is taking it's time returning to idle. If you find the linkage binding, then the cable needs lubing, or the bushings may be binding or worn out.  

  3. a ranger snappy, i dont know maybe you can rig up some kind of spring to make the idle go down faster if thats what you think will impress the women

  4. with out doing mods check throttle deflection get some body to push down peddle not to hard and check if you can open ventury any more if you can anjust throttle cable if never replaced before fit new cable you will be happy with lighter peddle and more responce. tune can effect speed of return to idle
