Question:

How do I make my volleyball serves go farther?

I'm pretty strong, but my volleyball serves sometimes don't even make it over the net. Tryouts are comign soon and I was wondering if you knew any way to increase my distance on serves.

  1. You are probably snapping your wrist and you don't eve know it! Just follow through like normal, but keep your hand straight.


  2. You don't have to be strong to serve, though it helps. One thing you can do is toss the ball closer to your body so you don't have to reach and make sure you are extending your arm the whole way up and not swinging at your ear

  3. make sure when you serve your arm is straight, and not bent. also, use your waist when you serve and get your power from your waist, and not your arms, i had the same problem, kinda still do, but make sure you get a high toss if youre doing over hand and if youre doing underhand, make sure you follow through

  4. when i started i had trouble serving the ball it didn't even reach the net so i did three things which have really workedout for me..

    1. Push ups ( they help increase your arm strenght and hitting the ball will become easier)

    2. I took my time (sometimes you rush and before you know it you toss it wrong or you hit it wrong and it goes to the net.

    3. I started to copy other people who i saw could serve, There was a girl who kinda punch the ball and italways went over. when I feel tired I still do that and since then i developed a great floater.

  5. Some pointers here...

    - first and foremost is a consistent toss(assuming you're right handed, toss it in line with your right side of your body)

    - contact with the ball is important - avoid brushing the ball with your fingers

    - stepping into the ball when making contact can add that extra needed momentum

    - FOLLOW THROUGH on your arm swing - don't just stop abruptly in mid swing once you've made contact

  6. Here's my advice... (based on a right hand hitter)

    Keep the ball out in front of you and higher than the hitting hand.

    Pretend you are a waiter/waitress holding a tray in your hitting hand.

    Hitting hand flat, ball out front, take step forward, then making contact with the ball.  Make sure you swing forward and not across your body.  Later you will be able to direct your serve to a weak spot on the court.

    This movement is similar to a baseball picture making his delivery.

    This should work after a little practice, and won't require you to bulk up in the weight room.

  9. hun i have played volleyball for a lil over 7 years now...

    what you need to do is before you serve make sure that your feet are a comfortable amount apart for you...then depending on which hand you write with ...if you are right handed put you left foot in front....and vice versa...and when you through the ball up step with the foot that you dont write with..if you are a right handed then step with your right...and if you are left handed step with your right....and when the ball comes down step and swing..but when you get done swingin your hand shoud come down and rest on your thigh....and remember to point your shoulders in the position you want the ball to go....good luck

  10. That was my problem, too. Now i'm improving. Ok make sure you hit the ball-if it's comfortable for you-on the heel of your hand, it increases power and distance. 2; nice high toss straight in front of where ur gonna hit it.3; when you hit the ball, make sure your hitting arm is as straight as possible, it should get it up there higher. 4; try walking a few steps-as your walkin, throw the ball up-if it doesnt go over the net when you dont walk-you might not be strong enough for it yet-the few extra steps help.

  11. If you do not make it past the net or over it, don't say anything  like "Whoa, that was bad." Instead, don't even say anything. When you do get it right, say something positive. It helps me when I have someone to get the ball after I hit it and roll it under the net.
