How do I make myself more promotable in retail?

I have been working in a Kohl's store for almost a year now and my experience before I started working there should have been enough to start me off as a supervisor, but those positions were filled when I applied.

I have been with the store since before we opened and I am an excellent employee. My superiors seem to know that, but it seems like I am always recognized in a "pat on the head" sort of way. For example, I am excellent at soliciting credit cards from customers. I got fifteen in one day which is considered excellent and my performance never slacks.

I have gotten positive comment cards from customers saying how great I am and even got a call from corporate saying that they got a call from a customer raving about how great my customer service was.

I try taking on any responsibilities that I can to set me apart and I always have a positive, outgoing attitude. My one year mark is in exactly one month and I feel that I deserve a promotion. What can I do to achieve this?

i started out at the lowest position in retail and now I am a store manager. it took 4 years. every year i moved up in ranks. heres what i did, never complain, always ask what you can do to upper management, work hard, give 100% and most important you have to really care about the customers. being in management you have two sides that you have to make happy, your corporate bosses policies and procedures and your customers wants and needs. if you can follow all the rules and make all the customers as happy as possible within company policy, you will be sure to move up. a little butt kissing doesnt hurt. managers like employees that lighten their work load so do your work and more... almost forgot, let the bosses know you are there to stay and that you are gunning for their jobs, let them know that you are smarter, faster, nicer, a harder worker and better for their position. remember you are there to make money, in any business you will have to step on someones toes to jump ranks, so just be honest. let them all know that you want a promotion, you want more money, you want more responsibility and that you will be a great asset to kohls!
