How do I make non combustible walls?

I moving my wood burner from the basement into my living room but I need to make sure I have the house protected to prevent a house fire. Whats the best stone or material to use to make sure of this?

  1. go to Lowe's or home depot and get a book on how to fireplaces.  they will have all of the instructions you need, plus what materials would be best used so you don't set your home on fire.  good luck


  2. Use a non-combustible material.  I would suggest glass or toothpaste.

  3. you can cover  the wall and floor with tile.. Use wonder board first for hearth and rear wall at least 12 inches wider the the stove on each side and at least 18 inches in front for a hearth the cover with your choice of tile, slate, brick veneer, or flagstone, grout, and your ready to set your stove.. there still is a minimum clearance on rear and sides, depending on your stove, so plan ahead.

  4. Metal studs and sheet rock.
