Question:

How do I make plastic look like damaged, rusted metal?

I'm trying to find a way to make plastic look old, damaged, and rusted. It's turning out to be more of a task then i thought it would be. I'm also nothing short of a perfectionist so i'll devote almost any amount of time and profit to making it look as convincing as possible, but keeping it cheaper is always better! Thanks for any help you can give.

  1. "Crackel" paint. Can find it at most hobby stores.

    Good luck

  2. Go to:  randomartsnow.com and ask jane.  she has the two step supplies to make it happen very easily.

  3. It would depend on the SIZE of your project...

When I build and "weather" models (tanks and cars) I use Testor's Model Master paints... they have "rust".  I paint a base color and then dry-brush over it after dry with progressively lighter shades of the "rust".  I've also sprinkled baby-powder over the wet paint to add a layer of "texture".

On LARGE projects (theater props) I use latex paints and sprinkle alittle corn-meal onto the wet paint to add "texture".

    GOOD LUCK
