Question:

How do I make something not flammable?

I have this lantern that I wanted to paint, and I wasn't really thinking in advance and used spray paint. The thing is, I still want to use the lantern but I'm thinking it's not too safe since the bottle of spray paint has a million warnings all over it. Is there any sort of paint or something that makes things not flammable anymore? that I can put on as a top coat or something?

  1. A fire retardent

  2. the paint is usually not flammable once it dries

it should be safe unless it says so on the label to not use it on something like a lantern.

see if there's a phone number on the label and call and ask

or call your local hardware store and ask them

but I don't think there is any such thing to put on it to make the paint not flammable any more.

but like I said it should still be flammable

  3. The spray paint is only flammable in its aerosall form...

If you turn your lantern off, spray paint it, let it dry, then turn it on, its not going to explode... you need fireworks for that.

  4. The paint should be okay. It's when you are spraying it that is is flammable.
