  1. Two cups rice, 1.5 cups water, boil it.

  2. rice cooker is the best way to prepare rice, and microwave would come second.  So if you can use the microwave I would try that.  I've been making rice for years, but I still haven't perfected the stove - my advise is dont bother.

  3. You can cook rice on the stove with a pot.

Put rinsed rice and water (1 cup rice/2 1/2 cup water) but that depends if you want your rice very soft or you want it chewy, experiment).

When the water boiled turn to medium heat and check back again in 15 minutes.  Rice is ready when you can't see any more water in the pot.  But don't let it burn.

  4. well I am from the middle east.. and people laugh at you if you use a rice cooker... they say a "real cook" never uses such things..

I just get a good pot.. water and rice..

if you want just plain white rice, no spices or anything.. this is my rule

1 cup of long grain rice (not quick cooking)

    rince and drain.. 3 times

    place in big pot

pour just enough water to cover 1 thumb knuckle height above rice.. (some say 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice), but my experience is the 1 knuckle height..

bring this too a boil... add a few shakes of salt to the water..

cover with good tight lid.. turn down to low and dont touch for 20min..

then uncover, fluff with fork.. and youve got nice fluffy white rice that will be somewhat sticky

if you want it non sticky.. add 2 tablespoons cooking oil to the water prior to cooking...

  5. I do it the same way Mintee does it, except instead of adding a little bit of oil to the water, I saute the uncooked rice (very briefly!) in a tablespoon or so of oil beforehand until all the grains have a bit of an oily "shine" to them.

Then I add the water, let it boil till it's at the same level as the rice, stir ONCE, turn the heat down, cover, & cook.  Comes out perfect every time.  :)

Make sure you don't take the lid off for the full 20 mins, because it's steaming in there.  :)

(oh, and I wanted to add that I don't rinse it.  some rice comes with extra nutrients on it that will get washed off if rinsed.  I just make sure that there aren't any black pieces or anything that's not supposed to be in there before I cook it)

  6. Use a high starch content rice, and less water than recommended on the bag.

  7. try this
