I just made my first candles and the scent isn't very strong after it has set. I used an ounce of fragrance, it only called for half an ounce. How do i make the scent stronger?

  1. Use an ounce and half if that don't work then 2 ounce

  2. CAUTION! Do not ever add more scent to candle than the wax instructions call for...EVER! One of your other responses gave you bad (dangerous) advice. I have seen container candles "go up" like a can of sterno because a novice candle maker added way too much scent!

There are several possible reasons why the scent is not strong in the finished candle, including:

    1) Low quality scent - Did you buy your scent from a reputable candle supply seller (like http://www.candlesandsupplies.com) or did you get from a craft store? Scent is the most expensive component in a candle and is ofter where a manufacturer or supplier will cut corners. Make sure that you steer clear of hobby store and ebay scents and go with a quality supplier. You will pay a little more, but it is always worth it.

    2) What wax and additives types are you using? Certain waxes have better scent throw than others. Soy wax has become very popular, but requires the scent to "bloom" for upwards of two weeks after being made for the scent to come to full strength. Also, adding steric or vybar can help improve scent throw (again, follow the instructions).

Please use caution and GOOD LUCK!
