I restored my new Acer Vista once already, didn't use the disks. I got another virus, someone suggested traces were left from before. How can I be sure there are no traces of a virus? I am going to start over and restore to factory defaults....I will keep Acer Vista format because of the computer's warranty.

  1. When you do a complete restore and format, nothing including a virus will be on your hard drive, or computer.

A restore isn't a complete erase and install like a format would be.

I suggest immediately download updates, and anti virus updates and software.  Since the new stuff on the web can hit a non updated pc fairly quick.  If you do get nasty stuff, try spyware doctor.  It's the best.

Also, if you change the software on your pc, it does not void the manufacturer's warranty, they just expect you to reinstall the original software to trouble shoot, since that is what it was designed with.  Kinda makes sense.  Hope this helps!  =)

  3. Just go out and buy Norton Virus protection software programs.

  4. after you've reinstall the OS and can access the web, download and install a virus protection package and run a full scan of your system.  I also suggest installing a program like Microsoft defender to keep your computer clean from spyware in the future and watch what you download and install.
