Real estate agents determine the costs for maintaining and hiring a conference room by considering a flat out fee of $55 for maintence, and then an hourly fee of $45 per hour. the max fee for the whole day's use is $595

45x + 55 = 595

It means that the conference room's use should not exceed 12 hours in order that the maximum $595 per day fee will not be exceeded.

There's 2 parts to this question and thus it cannot be written as a single equation except if you use a piecewise function.

x = no. of hours

f(x) = total cost

first we work out the total hours in order for it to cost 595:

45x + 55 = 595

x = 12 hours

f(x) = { 45x + 55 ; x<=12 }

f(x) = {595 ; x>12}
