I am in the process of obtaining my real estate license and I would like to get a night job. My plan is to work real estate during the day and a 20 hr per week night job. Well, my husband works 8am-7pm Mon thru Fri. I unfortunately do not have family in the area to help out. I decided to homeschool our son in order to get him caught up in school. What can I do to fit it all in?

  1. You may have to let something go.  You'll also want to enlist the help of your DH.  You could do school on weekends, too.  It doesn't have to be an 8-3, Mon-Fri thing.  HS'ing can be done whenever you need it to be to fit your family's schedule.  That's one of the main benefits.

I'm sure doing realty work during the day would also allow you to HS your son.  HS'ing a 5 y.o. should only take 1-2 hours per day, and it can be broken up into parts.  For instance, do math with your son, then return some calls while he has a break (or you can have him do independent supplemental work).  Then work on Spelling and make another call, etc.  Your main issue is going to be finding a place for him if you're out showing a home, doing a closing, etc.  Perhaps you could find another HS family would watch him while you do that.  I'm sure plenty of HS'ed teens would love the opportunity!

  2. send him back to school

  3. Remember that homeschooling is flexible-- nights, weekends, or early mornings, it's up to  you. Shorter days year-round as opposed to 180 longer days, spread out the work to do it one hour a day 7 days per week and then give him independant work, or squeeze it all into two days a week... leave seat work and projects for him to do with a babysitter... It's all up to you.
