I have planted a cherry tomato plant, and followed many directons, and now my plant is bearng an abundance amount of fruit. The only problem is that it is growing in a form of a hot mess. What I mean is, is that my garden looks like n explosion, as ther eis no uniformity in the plant growth. There are so much fruit that it is causing the stems to sag and hang onto the ground. What is the best way to clean up my garden, so there is more uniformity growth, and that my cherry tomato garden looks nice, and not like a carelessly put together garden? Please help :)

  1. Do you use a cage for them? That's what I do but sometimes they can still get a bit gangly. If a regular cage isn't big enough you can custom make a larger one with some wire fencing or wood. I would remove the excess fruit regularly and give it away if it's more than you need. I've added a link to some pictures to give you ideas.

  2. You should have used cages for them. They would have held up the fruit laden branches. If you have been fertilizing them allot, they will also go "wild".

  3. Cages, trellis, wire...they all help hold up tomato plants.  But since your plants are producing so well, why complain!?!  A little bit of "wild" in a garden is healthy.  Too much dress-right-dress and it would look like a controlled landscape and even the birds and bees would feel uneasy.

You can prune non-producing tomato leaves off to allow for more uniform growth.  This may intice the plants to grow even more, though.

I have nine tomato plants that decided to stray off the patch and are in my cabbage area.  They were probably seeds in the compost.  I opted to let them grow and they are now healthier than the older plants I planted in April.
