Question:

How do I match wires from my stereo deck to my car harness in my 2001 Ford Escape?

I am installing a Premier (pioneer) deh-p630 to my 2001 Ford Escape. The metra wiring harness for it is set up pretty simply, but I have connected all the wires I am sure of and have a few unproperly matched colored wires I'm unsure about. Every site I visit has color codes for the actual wires in the escape, not the metra aftermarket colors. The two wires from my stereo harness are blue with a white stripe and orange with a white stripe (the premier diagram says the orange with white stripe is to lighting switch terminal and the blue with white is to system control terminal of power amp or auto antenna relay control terminal) and the two from the escape harness are both orange, one has a black stripe. I am unsure which goes where. Also from the escape harness has a black wire with a white stripe that says "amp ground"...I do not have the optional factory amp installed, and assume thats what thats for since I ground my aftermarket amp directly to the body. Any help would be appreciate

  1. The blue/white wire from the head unit should be connected to the remote wire running to your after-market amplifier's "remote" terminal.

The orange/white wire from the head unit should be connected to the orange wire in the Escape harness.  This will allow your new head unit to automatically dim its display when you turn your vehicle's lights on.

The orange/black and black/white wire in the Escape harness should be taped off and left disconnected.

  2. thouse are not power wires so you can try them they will not burn nothing out because they are not power wires also blue with whit is for a amp if you dont have a amp dont put it in.....and the orange is lighting put it to the orange and black.....
