I just got a multimeter, and I have a bunch of AA batteries laying around that I'm not sure of the charge status of.

How can I check if they are charged with my multimeter?

  1. sorry, don't know...

  2. If you are using either a moving coil meter or a DMM(Digital Multimeter) all you need to do is to measure the voltage of a battery is to turn the round thing in the middle of the meter to point towards the voltage measurement indicated by the letter 'V'. The connect the two red and black terminals to the battery. The meter will show you the reading.

In some DMMs the letter 'V' has "~" this symbol over the letter, this means AC voltage, use this symbol if you're using AC voltage, otherwise use the symbol marked with the symbol "--" if you're measuring a DC voltage like the AA battery.

see this picture if you're confused:

You need to turn the "Number 1" to voltage first to measure voltage.
