How do I modify a document in Word 2007 that was e-mailed to me using Word 2003?

This was my document that I created and e-mailed to myself before I switched companies. Now I'm at a different company with Word 2007. When I open the document, everything is protected and grayed out. How do I fix this?

  1. Word 2007 should not have any problem opening a doc made in Word 2003.  (a file made in 2007 may not be able to be opened in 2003 though).

for grins, try opening the file in Google Docs word processor and see if it opens.  If it does, save it back to your PC as a different file name and then try again.

google docs is a free online word processor that is Word compatible (you don't have to install anything).

    go to http://docs.google.com

  2. Strange.  If Word 2007 read the file, I would expect it to be able to edit it.  Any chance it was password protected and/or Read Only?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

  3. Find someone with 2007 ver. and save back to 2003

  4. it should open,it does for me and all my friends
