Its a really old .22 that was my grandpa's or great grandpa's.

It is a bolt-action.

But there arent any grooves on it for a scope seeing as that is a more modern thing.

I've heard of some kind of ring that goes around the barrel or something.

I dont know exactly how to go about this. But its a great gun and I couldn't stand harming this gun.

  1. Go to a gun shop. They Wil make it right.

  2. Jimmy,

You'll have to get it tapped for mounts by a local gun smith. It's basically just drilling and threading certain spots on the top of the receiver. Don't do it your self, there are crucial spots on the receiver that can't be drilled, plus it's not that expensive at all. Hope this helped.

  3. On older guns, you need to take the rifle to a gunsmith, who can drill and tap the receiver to accept a scope mount. Once this is done, scope mounting should be an easy job for him. I'd let him mount the scope because finding the proper scope mount bases might be difficult on an older gun.

  4. don't mess up grand daddys gun...you can get a nice 22  w scope for 175 dollars anywhere

  5. Scope rings, take the rifle to a gun store and ask then what kind or size you need. They should be like 80 dollars give or take a few.

  6. Like someone already posted, take to a gunsmith. You might find out that the rifle is somewhat collectable or that it might be less expensive to simply purchase a newer rifle that is ready for a scope mount.
