How do I name a magic wand?

Should its name be in Latin? I thought wands had names... Tell me if I'm wrong but I recall Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings having a name for his wand. I want to name mine too, but I'm not too sure on how I would go about doing so.

  1. Latin or Greek. The name should be a bad word. Muhaha

  2. LOTR was fiction.  Wands aren't named.

  3. Gandalf had a name for his sword.  Wands can have name I would make it in my native language but write it on the wand in runes.  Any kind of runes will do but I really like the Futhark. Thebean runes are good they are often called the Witch's Alphabet because of their widespread use, but they are not as easy to carve because of all the curves.  After your wand is finished cast a circle and within the circle carve the name of the wand on it and dedicate it to whatever use it will go to.  Tell the attending spirits/Gods/energies and the wand itself the name perhaps making a three line statement with the name in each line.  Three is a very magical number.  If you work with fairies often you will want to make sure you do the consecration an odd number of times (3,5,7) the fairies will take more notice for that kind of repetition.  Blessed be.

  4. Mag-wand .... for magic wand.

  5. The Egyptians and Hebrews would name their staff after a master shaman or of a god of wisdom that they followed. According to the king Akhenaton he called his the staff of Thoth, according to the Hebrew Moses he called his the staff of Yahweh.

  6. as for everything that needs to be named...quiet meditation will bring the answer

  7. I would name it as I have named everything in my life: Take a good long look at it and then meditate on the object. The first word that comes into your mind use that one for it is the word that WILL bring the power to you. Or you can go traditional and name it after a deity of your choose however in that case I wouldn't call it the deities name par say but a phrase that calls forth the deity. Wand of Thor's might, or scepter of Lord  Vishnu or even staff of Mother Goddess Durga. Whatever way you choose blessings be to you...~M~

  8. ask it how it wishes to be called.

  9. Wands themselves are not magical but are used as tools by some practitioners when working with energy. Naming a wand is like naming a hammer. If you are into fantasy role-playing (ala D&D) then by all means name it whatever you want to.

  10. ask it what it wants to be called, and it will find a way to tell you.

  11. It depends whether you want to belong to the group called Mandovan, the group called Lavitus or the group known as the Chivalas.  The Mandovan group name their wands by the Latin name of the animal they love most.  The Lavitus name theirs by the thing they fear most and finally, the Chivalas take the names from the book of the dead.
