How do I only copy the movie from the dvd to my hard drive?

First off, I own a huge library of dvd's and i want to put them on an external hard drive. I will be traveling alot soon and want to watch my movies on my laptop. To save space on the hard drive i only want to copy the feature. No trailers, special features etc. When I insert the DVD and look at the contents i see VOB, IFO AND BUP files. Which do i need and how do i tell?

You can't delete any of those files, or the DVD can't be played normally. If you want to save space, I suggest you rip your DVDs to other formats, such as avi/wmv/vcd/iPod/PSP etc. And you will only get one file. But of course, those formats will lose some quality, but it is still perfect.

If you want to get the same quality as the original DVD, you may rip your DVD to "Original MPEG-2" format, this format is just like backing up the DVD with main movie mode, it excludes trailers, unwanted audio track and subtitles. And you will only get a .mpg file. What's more, this format need much shorter time to rip, usually 15-35 minutes.

You will need a DVD Converter like "Max DVD to AVI Converter" This will convert your DVD's to AVI Files. There are lots of Different DVD Converters out there.

Pop the disc in.

Run the Converter

Watch the Movie
