How do I open a preschool/child day care center?

Me and my best friend have decided to manage a preschool. We have been thinking about it for years and we finally decided we were serious and wanted to open our own, but we have no clue where to start. I need to know what degrees i'll need to get and the steps of opening a preschool. I'm still very curious on the pay and hardships opening a preschool will bring. So if anyone has any experience on managing a preschool that information would be very grateful.

**Also, i'm still in high school and will graduate in two years, so if there is anything I can take in high school to get prepared for the courses i'll take in college I would like to be informed about it.

Thanks so much!

  1. you pass out fliers, get a license, then voila you have a sitting service

  2. I am in college now so that i can open up a center.  I am taking early child hood education.  You need 4 years of college before they will even talk to you.  I have a group day care now but i can't expand until i have my 4 years in.  Good luck

  3. It's a wonderful ideas. To open a preschool/child care center u need to have permit. U can contact majlis daerah in your place and ask about it.  The place u want to turn into preschool must be corner house and have playground. Then u have to equip the house with table, chairs, cupboard, cooking utensils to prepare food. U also have to hire maids to help teachers to manage the children and cooking suitable foods for them. Dont forget they need games and computers too. Good luck!

  4. first you need license then heath board needs to check it out and i think you need to have employed help to and ready for buisness

You can open a preschool without a degree, but you should at least have get certified as a Child Development Associate (CDA). See http://www.cdaclass.org/

As an early childhood teacher myself who is serious about the profession, I would urge you to go to college and earn your degree in early childhood education focusing on babies and preschool age children, and take some classes in business (finance) and developmental psychology, safety, first aid and CPR, etc., classes that will prepare you to run a center.  There are so many things that teachers need to know in order to make sure that they are contributing academically and psychologically to the growth of the children in their care.  Plus, you're going to have hard time getting financing to run a center if you have no experience or a weak business plan.  If you're doing it in your home, you still need some experience working with children before people will trust you.  While you are in high school, you may be able to volunteer in some day care centers to get an idea of what goes on their. You may consider interviewing the  people who run the center.  Some of these people have been teaching for years or they have degree in education, social work or business administration.

You'll also need to know what your philosophy is going to be, how to design a curriculum, how to select the appropriate resources, etc. It will take more information and maturity and dedication but I see no reason why you can't start one in a few years (but go to college first). A good preschool education is hard to get, make sure yours is the best business it can be. Good luck!
