How do I open a telephone jack/plug?

I am having trouble opening a telephone jack/plug. My old one got the wires ripped out of it. It's a standard telephone plug. I bought a 10-pack of plugs and I assumed they would come open and all I had to do was insert the wires and click it closed. I just can't seem to open them, please help.

The RJ-11 phone plugs do not open.... the wires are crimped directly into the plug.
