How do I open an Irish bank account?

I'm moving from Australia to Dublin to work and would like to open a bank accout there before I go. How do I do this?

Try www.aibbank.ie but I think you'll need a PPS Number to be able to open an account.

You cannot open an Irish bank account unless you are resident here. I'm not sure of the length you need to be here though.

irish banks can be real tightarses when it comes to new customers,

the old proof of address thing, need a bill, but to get a bill you need an account! grrrr.

interestingly, when i lived in austrailia i got one straight away with no hassle,  a lesson there perhaps?
